TAURASI AREA - CASTELVETERE SUL CALORE (AV)

In the "Adopt a vine" package -> Bottles of "Due Cape" Taurasi DOCG

A brief history of the company "De' Gaeta":

I discovered a splendid corner of the green Irpinia hills nestled between a stream and a grove, I immediately fell in love with it and, immersed in uncontaminated nature, I increasingly appreciated its noises, its colours, its beauties.

Infected by my brother Bruno's passion for quality wine, I perceived, from the first moment, the charm of this wonderful world and I felt a new, unknown and indomitable enthusiasm. Together we embarked on a journey and we began to understand that "our land" is a great resource.

The Taurasi DOCG territory presents a remarkable variety of soils from which derives a multiple declination of what the Aglianico grape can express to us. Our ambition is to learn to listen to the land and realize our dream: "to obtain quality wines, which fully express what the land suggests to us and are original, typical, immediately recognizable"

Organic viticulture has always been practiced and the company is in the process of obtaining certification. In the vineyard, no synthetic chemical products are used other than sulfur and copper.

Ours is a naive, humble and respectful look towards nature in its many aspects.

Therefore, the perspective and the way of relating to the earth change, preferring a symbiotic silence to listen to its breathing and be able to evaluate the changes and be able to act, almost instinctively, according to the circumstances.

Since the beginning, the choice was made to practice environmentally friendly viticulture and apply a “natural” methodology.

We are increasingly convinced and persuaded that "The essential equation for obtaining great wines is the one that combines terroir and men" (Francois Moer and Jacques Dupont).

We have begun a journey of slow approach to “nature”, trying to acquire an ever finer sensitivity for the environment that surrounds us and to appreciate the undisputed value of “biodiversity”.

The vineyards are in the open countryside perched on the crest of the hill at 490 meters above sea level. It is no coincidence that the location where it is located is called “Toppolocozzetto”, which means near the top. Not far away, the Terminio-Tuoro mountains act as a backdrop, a tributary stream of the Calore acts as a soundtrack. The soil is of the sandy clay type with a moderate presence of limestone, which combines with elements of volcanic origin, sandstone and schists.

The slower ripening process requires a very late harvest, in late November, thus obtaining grapes that are on average richer in extracts, alcohol, tannins and acidity.
